The green movement has taken America by storm. It has influenced people's food choices, dress styles and even the way they renovate their homes. The pursuit of water saving is not purely ideological. The cost of water in America is rising. Many cities are seeing less tax revenue from slow economies and are thus looking to utilities as a means of making ends meet. As city populations swell, water systems --many of which date back to before WWII-- are simply over stressed. In many cases, the cost of your water bill also includes money put towards the update the sewage and water ways of your municipality.

Installing water saving items is economically prudent but not just for you water bill. If you plan on selling your home, having modern, water-saving technology will be a selling point.

The bathroom and kitchen are the two biggest spots in the home for water use, so naturally that is a good place to start thinking about saving water. In the bathroom you can install a modern up-flush toilet to save water. These toilets use fluid dynamics, air pressure and modern design to deliver a toilet that is more powerful, and in some cases, uses only half as much water. Macerating toilets are also designed to function without much water pressure. Simply Google your preferred toilet brand with a word like "Eco-friendly" or "water saving." You can find water saving Saniflo or Kohler's toilets online easily.

In the bathroom you should install an Eco-friendly shower head. Most new water-saving heads deliver water at the same pressure and temperature so you don't need to sacrifice anything. Some people find they can also save water, or just enjoy their bathroom more, with items like a bidet faucet, but that is more of a personal choice.

In the kitchen many people find that kitchen faucets double bowl helps them save water by making dish washing faster and easier. Washing more dishes by hand also stops you from running half empty dishwasher loads, which are not a good use of your water. The same is true for flexible kitchen sink heads. Not to mention both those items are great for cooking, cleaning and other kitchen duties.
