The Effect Of Google+ On Your Search Presence
Google+ launched last September and with it gave way to a horde of speculations on
how SEO in India or anywhere else for that matter will impacted by the Googles social service.
Many experts in SEO, Indian services or ones from other parts of the world believe that search engines have inclined towards more use of social platforms, and Google+ just clarifies the intentions of Google, the search engine leader.
Whats the effect of Google+ on SEO?
One of the popular Internet consultancy firms conducted a survey in which it asked more than 500 agencies and client-side respondents of its UK Search Engine Marketing Benchmark Report 2012 and came up with following conclusion.
Google+ and search marketing
Of all the respondents, only 3% thought that Google+ having a positive impact on their SEO. 1% thought Google+ has had a negative impact. The lion share of 29% answered in neutral. The most interesting of the findings of course was that 68% of companies surveyed did not know the impact that Google+ was having on their SEO or SEM campaigns. The responses give a clear explanation of the fact that Google is fast from fully integrate social signals from Google+ into its search results. Yes, there are some signs of more things to come! You have better search presence of brands with Google+ pages, the criteria that Google uses in preparing the index is, however, yet to be clear.
G+ integration and the future ahead
Kevin Gibbons, an independent blogger conducted an independent study to conclude that search results with +1s, in practicality, gathered lower CTR. Kevin however found that sites with a Google+ presence and a strong presence on social media sites were doing much better in terms of organic traffic! He believed that a strong social presence helps in "making your rankings more defensible and future proof to algorithm updates".
Google+ practices
Upon asking what they had done since Google+ was launched, Econsultancy found that about 56% companies and over 39% agency clients, inclusive of ones subscribing to SEO India services or that of the others said they had done nothing about making their presence on G+.
Even if 33% companies and 56% agency clients has Google+ brand pages, but just 6% and 10% of the companies falling in the respective categories have measured referrals and conversions via their G+ pages.
The study concluded with following findings:
1. 62% of companies most likely to increase social media spending for next 12 months
2. 57% intends to increase SEO spending with 49% willing to expense specifically in paid listings
3. Around 57% of all companies treat social media and SEM separately
4. A mere count of 19% subscribe to same agencys service in managing their search and internet presence campaigns
Another significant trend that the study revealed was that in just 12 months, many companies have nearly doubled their mobile paid search budget. However, worrisome part is that many such companies are lacking an implementing an integrated approach to ensuring their digital marketing.
