It is known that more than 80 percent of employers are now placing CV's directly into searchable databases and an equal percentage of employers prefer to receive CV's electronically. These stats mean that you need an electronic version of your CV that can go directly into a keyword-searchable database with no obstacles. If an employer has bought credits to search CV's on an online jobs portal, this portal contains keyword search, a job seeker would be foolish not to consider this industry trend.

To summarise, the primary reason for creating an electronic CV is: So employers may easily scan the paper version of your electronic resume into applicant-tracking software, using optical scanners. And that the job seeker can upload his/her onto a job portal that employers can scan CV's against keywords.

All scanner work on the same principle. They are looking for key words, phrases or jargon or specialist language that have been programmed into the software, or that can be entered into an open search box. Specifically the words that companies scan for are often nouns and proper nouns, for instance, Excel' or Word' or automatic payroll systems', other examples may be ROI, Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Sales, Account Management, C++, Visual Basic, Word Processing, MS Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Graphic Design, and Advertising. Even strings of information like 4 years experience', blue chip, and competitor company names for example.

Some software programmes are now searching keywords that describe your personal qualities. Typical qualities that companies look for, for example; leader or leadership, communicator, sociable, dynamic, energetic, skilled, team-focused, dependable, etc.
