The Elite Units of Space Wolves

Elite units, as their name implies, are very special in the Warhammer universe. Because they are elite, they usually have better stats and better weapon selections, making them harder to kill than ordinary units. The space wolves, given the harsh conditions of their home world and their natural warlike disposition possess some of the toughest elite units in the game.

One elite unit in space wolves is the wolf scout. They are very handy to use, since they can go within the enemy lines and destroy specific units with virtual impunity. With this ability, a player can wage a psychological war with the opponent, wreaking havoc on their specially deployed units, and sometimes tricking them to make certain moves that will spell their defeat.

Another elite unit in space wolves is the venerable dreadnought. These units are tougher than the standard dreadnoughts, which make them even harder to destroy than their standard counterparts. They also have more fearsome firepower. This amazing combination enables the player to use them as the main support during an assault strategy, or as part of a main defense line.

Then there are the lone wolves. Their background as the last surviving member of their respective squad make them naturally vengeful, and hence naturally tough. Simply put, they are excellent to use as a one-man army, capable of taking down big creatures even at the cost of their life. This gung-ho trait works very well when equipped with power armor, a storm shield and thunder hammer. Thus they can keep on destroying units while minimizing damage.

One other elite unit in space wolves is the wolf guard. They are a bit similar to lone wolves in that they can be equipped with a lot of weapons and armor and deal massive damage, but their main asset is their leadership ability. The player can then deploy them to any normal pack to increase their battle capabilities. That way when casualties are taken by that pack, the wolf guard unit can pitch in to turn the tables.

Of course, having tough elite units will not help if the strategy is bad. Remember the strengths of the various elites and incorporate them into the overall battle plan. Creature heavy armies will go down more easily with lone wolves, while wolf scouts are best for trying to scatter well entrenched enemies. The other elites have their own specific purposes as well. Playing them correctly will help guarantee victory.
