The Colchester Castle Museum is the perfect way to explore the history of Colchester. Plenty of interesting exhibits are on display, and hands on exhibits for the kids as well. You can also explore the dungeons and the roof for extra excitement.
Step into Victorian times at the Audley End House and Gardens. One of the most fabulous homes in England, Audley End will let you experience life as it was in the past. Live demonstrations in the grand kitchen will let you see the cook at work, and you can tour the stables and meet the horses as well. The beautiful grounds and gardens are perfect for a relaxing stroll, and there is a play area suitable for children to unwind.
Farm life can be hectic at times, and you can experience this for yourself at Boydells Dairy Farm. The breathtaking North Essex countryside is the location of this working farm. Children and adults alike will enjoy participating in the farm life activities, such as holding baby chicks, bottle feeding lambs, and even milking a cow! Feed the hens, ride a donkey cart, and collect the days eggs. If you've never been on a farm, this is a great place to experience a whole different part of life and to escape from the days usual hustle and bustle.
Wildlife is abundant in Rainham Marshes. Bird watchers will get their fill of peregrine, lapwing and ringed plovers, just to name a few. Hear the soothing croaking of the marsh frogs, and view the beauty of the butterflies that float around the flowers. Take a relaxing walk and see red deer during the day and bats at night.

The Lakeside Shopping Center features plenty of clothing shops, coffee houses and budget prices for those looking for a bargain. Art galleries and craft centers can be found throughout Essex as well, so feel free to browse and do a little shopping while you visit.
