The End Of Cannes 2010

The 2010 Cannes film festival has finally come to an end with its surprises and discoveries.

Like all the past editions of the film festival, the awards given have brought many critics and film lovers to talk a lot and either applaud or criticize the awarded films.

We could say that there were roughly around nine different categories in the competition in this Cannes film festival divided between the feature films on one side and the short films on the other side.

There are also other categories that are not as well known as the other listed above and which are not in the in competition group. You will find the golden camera, the cinefondation prize which includes three prizes, and the un certain regard group which also gives three types of prizes.

But lets only focus on the in competition section which surely is the one we hear the most of.

This year, the golden palm was awarded to a movie called Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives which was directed by a Thai. It seems that this is the kind of movie that you either like or hate and many people have given various comments on it. I guess it is better to watch this movie if you want to make your own opinion on it.

The Grand Prix award was this year given to a French movie called Of gods and men which related the terrible faith of monks living in the Maghreb.

The award for the best director was given to Mathieu Amalric for the movie On tour, while the award for the best screenplay was given to a South Korean movie called Poetry.

It is interesting to notice that the award for best actress was given to Juliette Binoche in film called Certified copy which was directed by an Iranian. We have heard a lot about this movie because of its director who is apparently opposed to the Iranian government.

We all love to watch movies and I am sure this Cannes film festival as awoken our curiosity on some of the movies that were in the competition. Those who cannot wait will surely go to the cinema or buy the DVDs when they find the movies that interested them.
