The Ever Popular Seaside Resort Of Blackpool
Since the middle of the nineteenth century, Blackpool has been one of the most prominent seaside resorts in the whole of the United Kingdom
. Originally a favoured spot on the English map by wealthy people from the surrounding area who would visit Blackpool to cure their illnesses by bathing in the sea, the popularity of the town expanded up and down the country, but most notably within the working class population of northern England.
For many years, right up until holidaying abroad became popular, Blackpool was one of the most visited seaside resorts in the United Kingdom. Featuring everything that was wanted on a holiday, including a long stretch of beach, an entertainment pier for all the family and plenty of bars and restaurants to cater for the needs of everyone who visited the town, there was very rarely and still is not the need to venture out of the main area of Blackpool during a holiday.
Whilst the popularity of the town may not be as high as it once was, Blackpool still boasts an impressive amount of visitors each year and this can, in part, be attributed to the famous Pleasure Beach Blackpool theme park.
Attracting over six million guests each year, twice as many as the second most visited theme park in the United Kingdom, Alton Towers, Pleasure Beach Blackpool was originally opened in 1896 and today covers an extensive piece of land of in excess of forty acres.
Initially, Pleasure Beach Blackpool (known then as Blackpool Pleasure Beach) featured only standard fairground rides and it was not until 1913 when more larger and permanent rides were beginning to be built.
The biggest attraction at Pleasure Beach Blackpool is without doubt the Pepsi Max Big One roller coaster which, when it was first opened in May 1994, held the record of being the tallest, fastest and steepest roller coast, not only in the United Kingdom and Europe, but in the world.
Whilst Pleasure Beach Blackpool is a major attraction for the town, it is not by far the only major sight in the town and no visit to Blackpool would be completed without a trip to Blackpool Tower.
Opened in the May of 1984, Blackpool Tower is a Grade 1 listed building that stands almost five hundred and twenty feet high and is heavily inspired in terms of design by the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Blackpool Tower draws people to it to simply head to the top and see the view, but also brings people in to see some of the many artists and performers who play there. Of the wide variety that have performed over the years, the comedian Peter Kay is regarded as the most prominent and later went onto to release the DVD of his tower performance.
Accommodation is plentiful in Blackpool and the various Blackpool hotels that are available ensure that there is a type of accommodation to suit all visits to the town and whether it is a seaside holiday or a short, overnight stay for business, you can guarantee that Blackpool will be able to offer you a great time.
