The Evolution of the XBOX 360 Dashboard
It all started back on November 22nd, 2005, when Microsoft took it's second stab at the home gaming console market with it's release of the XBOX 360. The 360 came out a year earlier than both the Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation 3 so it had an early lead in the next generation console department. A first on any home gaming console was the ability to customize the way your console looked with various themes to fit the current user. With the ability to have multiple profiles on your console each user was able to customize the dashboard to fit exactly their style. Hit the link below to continue reading about how Microsoft has continued to evolve the user experience on the XBOX 360, and don't forget to vote on which dashboard you preferred.

Microsoft, 3rd party developers & other various companies offered themes and gamer pictures for users to purchase as downloadable content through the XBOX Live Marketplace. Along with game expansions, map packs & much more.
While the 360 launched with a bunch of different themes none of them aside from the 3 default ones were very eye pleasing and thus leaving users who wanted a change from the default styles to purchase theme on the XBOX Live Marketplace. A few special collectors edition of different games also had a free one time use redeemable code included in the packaging which allowed users to download a free theme or gamer picture related to the game purchased. Users are able to communicate people via voice, text & video chat. The XBOX Marketplace has demos, game add-ons & more
At E3 2008, Microsoft unveiled a new dashboard titled the New Xbox Experience that would launch on November 19th, 2008. This new dashboard added many new features including an all new UI look and the new ability to create Avatars that were suppose to represent each gamer by customizing the Avatars body shape, facial features, hair, clothes and much more. Users are able to download new clothing and props via the XBOX Live Marketplace.

2 years later and Microsoft is at it again with a new dashboard to accommodate the Microsoft Kinect which is set to launch on November 4th, 2010. This dashboards adds a clean new user interface with a touch of silver. The update also features a new boot animation for when you turn on your XBOX. Microsoft has done a great job here with keeping their branding consistent.
