The Excellent Blackberry Curve 9360-a Closer Look At The Software Used

The new Blackberry Torch 9360 is the latest model to be introduced into the popular Torch range of handsets from RIM

. This new model is a more basic specification device than the Torch 9810 and is designed to appeal to consumers looking for a competitively priced smartphone. We take a look at the new interface sported by this model and some other features offered by the new operating system.

The Blackberry Torch 9360 is one of the new generation handsets from the brand that comes supplied with version 7.0 of the operating system installed. This latest software does not add a great deal of new features to the model but it does improve the overall functionality and user experience. The software takes advantage of the more powerful processors offered by the newer handsets together with their more impressive handling of graphics. It is for this reason why version 7.0 cannot be used on older generation models and is only available on a couple of devices at present. All navigation on the phones interface is performed via the optical trackpad as there is no touchscreen facility. In terms of looks the UI is very similar to the hugely impressive Playbook tablet device that was released earlier in the year. The new Liquid Graphics system breathes some life into what was a quite tired looking interface and visually the new format certainly rivals the likes of Android and iOS. The interface is colourful and icons look very modern and sharp with changeable backgrounds and crystal clear text.

The interface on the Blackberry Torch 9360 is also much easier to navigate than previous versions. The main homescreen has a section which gives you shortcuts for toggling various connection types such as WiFi and Bluetooth. There are also shortcuts available on this homescreen that allow you to change settings such as alarm times. Located beneath this section there is a magnifying glass icon which when pressed launches the excellent search facility that the model offers. The user is then presented with a simple bar into which they can type the name of the item that they wish to search for. A small microphone icon is shown besides this bar and when pressed it launchs the voice search feature. This is a new feature of the Blackberry 7.0 operating system and the voice recognition is actually very good when compared to similar systems used on other handsets. When we tried the system the phone accurately recognised the word we were saying even with regional accents.

The Blackberry Curve 9360 is the best value phone available that offers the excellent new Blackberry 7.0 operating system. The interface on the phone looks great whilst some additional features such as the ability to perform a voice search enhance the appeal of this great model.
