The Expansion Usage Of Scart Interface On Dm500

All the DM500 satellite receivers in Dreambox series have the Scart interface at their back boards

. Scart is short for Syndicat des Constructeursd Appareils Radiorcepteurs et Tlviseurs. It is a standard carried out by a French company, Peritel. Scart interface is designed for video and audio output specially. It is the obliged interface on satellite receivers, TV sets and video recorders in Europe. The Scart interface has many other usages despite its basic function of output video and audio signal because some of the pins in Scart interface can put out different levels in control of the CPU. So we can use this characteristic of Scart interface to control the outer equipment as the change of pin level can control the devices. The Scart interface can be used to control the moderate frequency switcher, wireless card reader, radiating fan and so on. This passage will mainly discuss how to use the Scart interface to control the switchers on TV set, modem and router, in order to achieve the goal that makes all the machines working together.

The TV set is a display device. If we want to watch the online sharing programs on it, we should also let the DM500 control the power supply of router and modem. If we search the information about Dreambox, we will find that 16th pin in Scart interface on DM500 gives out a voltage of 0 volt when DM500 is under the CVBS or S-Video video output mode. However, if we set the DM500 to the RGB or YCbCr video output mode, we will find the 16th pins voltage is 4.5 volt.

This difference between different video output mode can be used to control the switchers. We can make a control board to run the switchers using the different voltage of 16th pin of Scart interface. If we connect a 6V electromagnetic relay to the 16th pin directly, we will find out that the voltage of 16th pin decreases to 2 volt; this voltage is too low to run the electromagnetic relay. This is because the current of 16th pin is too low. Then you should use an electromagnetic relay with smaller voltage demand.

These are all basic principles about how to control the switchers using the Scart interface. With these principles and your knowledge of electronics, you can make it reality. When the system is established, you can turn on your modem, router and TV at the same time and you dont have to do the same work for three times.
