The Expendables Movie May Bring Big Stars Back To The Big Screen

In the past thirty years there have been a plethora of action stars who have been on the big screen

. They can be easily named: You have Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, and Arnold Schwarzenegger to name a few. But who would have ever thought that a movie featuring all of these stars would ever happen? Well, apparently Sylvester Stallone did. The writer, director, and actor is directing a new ensemble film called the Expendables, and it features all of those big names as well as a few more.

According to the synopsis of the film: After years of unspeakable corruption that concludes with tragedies such as the murder of American hostages and betrayal of foreign policies, and finally recognizing a way out of this terrible mess, the U.S. along with other nations, equally seeking the end of this catastrophe, secretly put together a squad of its highest trained military personnel finally to overthrow the dictator who has caused devastation in South America for over 20 years. The team sets out on its mission to complete the assassination, but with little help from the nations as they try to keep the mission secret. After they realize that there will be no outside help, they rely on their own resources to fight not only the dictator's army but also the governments that set them up.

The film had been rumored for a long time as Sylvester Stallone's pet project, and filming began in late 2009. There were other actors offered roles in the film, such as Jean Claude Van Damme, but Van Damme turned down the role. Steven Seagal, and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson were offered roles, but ended up turning them down.

While the film has yet to have a full trailer, it is unknown whether or not the film will be at the box office. The title itself also refers to how most of the stars are now considered past their prime and are not as popular as they used to be in their heyday. Some critics are already saying that the very idea of the movie is nothing more than an overly indulgent throwback cooked up by Stallone, but audiences are being very optimistic about the potential outcome of the film. Many believe it will have a wide appeal due to the use of the action stars finally back in leading roles in a big budget film, as many of them had been given the direct to video treatment. The movie is set for an August, 2010 release.
