The Facts About 03 Number Ranges From Ofcom
Ofcom introduced 03 numbers in March 2007
Ofcom introduced 03 numbers in March 2007. One of the main reasons behind the introduction of the 03 number range was that the customers who made calls to the free 0800 numbers from a mobile phone, they were being charged for it by the mobile service providers. These calls were not even considered in the free inclusive minutes of the mobile plan, so customers who called the freephone numbers from their mobile phones received higher phone bills.0800 numbers, 0844 numbers,
0845 numbers, 0871 numbers already have a cost element attached to it, so this confusion was more in the case of freephone numbers than any others.
The 03 number range will still be non-geographic like any 08 number. They will not have any particular geographic location attached to it. The calling structure reflects the geographic number range charges.
0300 and 0303 numbers are used by public bodies and not for profit organisations. These numbers are reserved and other organisations cannot use them. For 0330 and 0333 numbers, no eligibility is required so all organisations can use them. The 03 number range brings about the much needed transparency as far as call pricing is concerned. The number can be dialled from any device, fixed land lines, mobile phones or pay phones and the pricing will be the same. Customers dialling the 03 numbers will have more confidence about the cost of the call. Many customers are unhappy about the way organisations use their 08 numbers. 03 numbers are therefore perceived as being more ethical and customer friendly.
One of the main advantages of using 03 numbers rather than geographic numbers starting with 01 or 02 is the availability of enhanced services such as routing plans, call statistics, disaster recovery solutions and advanced call plans. 03 numbers can also be given out as your CLI or the number that identifies your call. It is called presentation number and can be given by your outbound call service provider.
For those companies that wish to migrate their existing 0844, 0845, 0870 or 0871 numbers to the 03 number range, 0344, 0345, 0370 and 0371 sub range is available. A company that operates with 0844 600 6000 can migrate to 0344 600 6000. It will still have all the features, benefits and functionalities of the non geographic number range, but with the added benefit of the positive company image and customer service benefits. With the increase in mobile phone usage, 03 numbers are likely to grow more in popularity.
