The Photographer: Decide on the type of model that suits your tastes; be it a girl blessed with a curvaceous body, an androgynous body or maybe a red head etc. With the right model you should be inspired to produce great results.
To find your model, there are a number of methods; she could be a friend interested in modelling for your project, a model from the local photo club, the girl working at the supermarket checkout desk or one from a photo agency the possibilities are endless. What ever method you use, you must have a healthy respect for the model so that she will haveconfidence in your professionalism. Without this, your final images maybe unfocussed and lost in apathy (the dead eyes' look). So the model that you hope to work with should inspire you to produce sensual nudephotography, so make sure there is a rapport between the two of you. Remember this is a collaborative effort. Nothing of worth will shine through the shoot if you hide yourself in the viewfinder.
Also if you wish to use the photos for publication, you must provide a model release for the model to sign. The model release form must be comprehensive and easy to understand.
The Model: Whether you consider modelling as a career, a stepping stone, for fun or as a hobby, you need to be confident in your approach. To find modelling work and interested photographers, you might talk to a friend who is already modelling and can give you advice, find an agency, find out about local photo clubs and photographers. The internet will provide you with details on what is happening in your area.
When you have decided to contact someone, speak to them as often as you need, and be happy with their answers to your questions, in order to remove any doubts you may have. Make sure you feel confident about the photo arrangements, the location, the timing, what to expect and if necessary, maybe take a friend with you. Also if there is any doubt, be clear in what you will and will not do in front of the camera.
Once you have begun modelling, you may need to consider having a portfolio of your photos produced. Always ask photographers for either a copy of the best prints, a CD copy of them or maybe you'll receive it in lieu of pay (Time for prints [TFP] or Time for CD [TFCD]). With either a photo club or an agency, when they have you listed on their books, you might get bookings on curiosity alone, as photographers are always on the lookout for new blood'. It's worth noting that my favourite muse of numerous photo shoots was originally found listed at my local club.
