The Future Of Sales Training Programs Is Now
An effective sales team is what distinguishes successful
, profitable companies and those that struggle to stay in business. For this reason, companies take time to invest in the training of their sales teams often more than on any other department in the organization. The sales training is geared towards develop their skills and growing their knowledge and understanding of the sales arena.
But even though sales training has remained a constant part of businesses for many years and the sales tactics and sales technique taught has remained largely unchanged, the method used to conduct sales training has seen a lot of changes in line with the changing dynamics of the business environment. Few things have had as much influence on how sales training is conducted today as much as technology has. In times past, the traditional training environment was classroom based and required all participants to travel to the training venue.
But with the internet and telecommunication technology, this is no longer necessary. The emergence of video conferencing and satellite broadcasts has meant that the trainer and the trainees do not need to be in the same room or even the same country. You can have the trainer speak from New York and the trainees simultaneously listen in from London, Johannesburg, Sydney and Sao Paolo. Even though at the beginning the cost of using these services was prohibitively high, the availability and falling cost of high capacity communication channels has made this a more cost effective solution especially where one needs to reach an audience that would otherwise be expensive to assemble in one room with the trainer.
Another key trend in modern sales training is the use of internet based seminars also referred to as webinars. These are online workshops where participants are informed way before the event date so they can plan to attend. On the material day, the trainees will simply go online, log into the webinar application and start listen in and contribute. Using a webinar for sales training also has the advantage of the video and audio files being available after the end of the session. So if someone was unable to attend the actual webinar, they can still go back and listen in on what was discussed.
And this actually points out one of the things that is now demanded on any form of training today-flexibility. If you are trying to organize sales tactics and sales technique training for your sales team, it can be detrimental to the business if you are to try and get the entire sales team to attend the training during a working day. In addition, not everyone might be able t attend the training on the said day. Online learning courses (often collectively referred to as e-learning) provide this flexibility since all you need to do is set up the course either on the internet or on the company's intranet portal and set a date by which each person should go through the course. That way, each person can set aside the time that works best for them to go through the sales training program.
