History of social media marketing: In the initial years of industrial production, marketing was hardly of any importance for most companies as they used to make huge production and dumped a lot into the markets. With the advent of internet and social networking sites, companies can now reach to the potential customers very effectively. Use of videos: Some time back when this form of marketing was developed, it was limited to networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter etc. With passage of time, use of videos came into picture for advertising. Further, movies are increasingly getting released directly on YouTube.
Research is being done to make the videos interactive and the speaker can actually interact with the audience. Further, with the development of high end phones, internet is no longer the domain of computers. One can access high speed internet on their smart phones.

When any user clicks on any advertisement, the advertiser would pay a pre-determined amount to Facebook. It is hoped that many more such offers would be seen in future which would make the field much more exciting. Further, Google Inc is offering many innovative advertisement options like AdSense and AdWords. When the any advertisement is clicked on the web site of the website owner, he/she gets paid by Google.
Google is coming up with some exciting e-mail applications; it would check the content of our e-mail and can suggest whether we are sending e-mail to the right person! Further, if we have forgotten to sign out from our e-mail session at another computer, we can sign out from other sessions without needing to be present there physically.
Effect on Journalism: With the rise of such exciting applications, people are wondering what would happen to the role of journalists. They would not be out of business, for sure but their roles would increasingly be based on internet.
