Golf is a sport played with a club and ball where the golfers endeavor to hit the ball into a hole on the golf course using the minimum number of strokes. It is one ball game that is not played within a standardized playing field and is usually played on courses which have their own unique design. The golf courses are normally of either nine or eighteen holes. The game is played on several rounds and is based on playing a number of holes in a specific order.
Usually one round consists of playing into eighteen holes that are played in the order determined by the course lay out. The game is started by playing the ball with the club in theteeing area. The initial stroke is a long one due to the distance of the hole. In order to get the right elevation a small peg or "tee" is used to raise the ball a little above the ground.
The golfer drives the ball a long distance to cover the golf course the ball is then struck from the place it rests until it reaches the green where the hole is situated. The golfer then drives the ball into the hole. The player attempts to get the ball into the hole using the minimum number of strokes and the winner is decided on the basis of the least no. of strokes needed to putt the ball. The ball that is used during the game should not be changed during unless it is damaged.
Golf is an emerging sport and is now gaining in popularity among youngsters worldwide. It was earlier considered a domain of the wealthy but with more and more people coming into the high income bracket the sport has become quite affordable though its equipments are quite expensive and out of reach for many.
