Horticulturists and gardeners should really love this label printer. It is designed with them in mind but it is also very useful for anyone that might need to apply labels to organize their supplies. The Brother GL-200 is great for labeling tiny seedling pots, for organizing your tool wall or rack, for labeling what is inside those used coffee cans, or for just about any kind of labeling.

The GL-200 uses the tape cartridges from Brother's TZ and these label tapes are durable and very resistant. They come in widths of 6mm, 9mm, and 12mm. These labels can also withstand temperatures from -80 to +150 degrees Celsius so they could even hold up in outer space. These label tapes are also resistant to humidity, chemicals, oils and abrasions, so they are really tough. The color of print ranges from black to fluorescent and the backing or label color can be from transparent to white. There are five different fancy borders also included with this label printer. These borders consist of the wooden plank, the callout, the sweet wrapper, the banner with the curly ends and the rounded rectangle. So a combination of one of the fancy borders and the colorful labels and text can make some attractive labels to brighten up your potting shed or wherever you may be working.

The keyboard is a tad bit simple. It is not a QWERTY but just an alphabetical one. It only has a Symbol key to access the 83 special symbols; it has a Function key to set the calendar and clock; and then it has the Accent key to enable you to print the accented characters.

The simple Helsinki font is all that is offered with the Brother GL-200 label printer but it has three basic sizes and each size has three levels of character compression. This font enables up to two lines of text to be printed and you can print in mirror image if you are using the transparent label tape. You may also print a label in upright position with the vertical option.

The GL-200 label printer comes with a manual cutter with a sensor that displays an error if the label tape did not retract properly after cutting. This can be caused by clogging of adhesive residue after lots of use.

There is a very useful feature called the Preview feature on this printer. It enables you to scroll through everything you have designed on your label and see the length and results of your label before printing. There is another useful feature called chain printing. Chain printing gives you the ability to print more than one copy of a label and you can control the margins on the sides of the text and therefore control the length of each label. There is a semicolon between each label that tells you where to cut. Then one more feature of this printer, but not quite as useful, is the Feed feature. This feature allows you to feed the blank tape out to the desired length you need.
