The Global Printer And Copier Industry Shows A Lot Of Promise

, I have no doubt that the copier and printer industry had a bumper year in 2012 in spite of the global economic slowdown. Reports from countries in Europe such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France and Spain are showing signs of positive growth and are expected to grow in a few years to come. In Canada and the United States the situation is not much different from the other European countries.

Among emerging countries such as South Africa, India, China and Russia, the future is set on a positive note to great success. For example, India grew by 7%, with end use spending standing at over 208 million dollars, according to market research firm Gartner.

According to research organization, Global Industry Analysts, world printing machinery and supplies industry will grow in the region of 21 billion dollars in the next three years. This is great news for all players in the industry and at the same time presents a challenge to them to position their businesses to take advantage of the expected growth. It will be interesting how the various brands (manufacturers and dealers alike) are going to do to gain competitive advantage in this regard.

At least the Global Industry Analysts give us an idea of what factors are going to play an important role in all this. According to them, the whole industry has benefited from the introduction of new products helped by the innovation of new technologies. The demand for digital copiers and printers within the business community for office purposes, for instance, has increased over the years and is expected to do so between now and 2015.

The copier and printer industry has always thrived on new innovations if you look at it from the historical point of view. When Xerox invented its xerographic copiers in the 50s, the whole industry took the same direction and began to see significant growth. It has followed the same trend with the introduction of new products and technologies throughout the 60s till now. From the way it seems this trend is going to continue with the enhancement of digital printing technologies. For example, Inkjet printers and printers that make use of flash cards to connect digital cameras are increasing in demand.

With the high level of competition in the industry, my prediction is that companies that are able to provide more personalized solutions to customers are more likely to benefit from the forecasted growth. Other factors that will determine manufacturers and dealer perform in the competitive environment will include pricing and the willingness or the ability of a company to offer customized after sales support services.

There are exciting times ahead for this industry. The onus now lies in the hands of players within the industry to make the best out of the prevailing market conditions. It is real business opportunity that will require careful strategic planning and research in order to take full advantage. I have a very good feeling that we will be seeing more businesses entering the market in the year 2013.
