The Gracie Diet For Bjj Athletes

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that helps people gain physical strength and keep fit

. A good diet system is certainly required to keep the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes healthy. The pioneer of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Carlos Gracie found a new diet system for the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners of all sizes irrespective of their weight, strength and musculature. This diet system found in early part of the 20th century was named as The Gracie Diet.

The Gracie diet comprises four food tables: Group A, Group B, Group C and Group D. This diet is a combination of foods ranging from vegetable oils, animal proteins, cereals, sweet fruits, acid foods, etc each falling in one of the four groups. Lets now have a detailed look at the types of food that these groups are composed of.

Group A: This group of The Gracie Diet consists of animal proteins, fats, oils and vegetables such as fish, eggs, meats, chicken, butter, olives oil, onion, pumpkin, etc.

Group B: This group mainly consists of cereals such as barley, oats, breadfruit, rice, soybean, and so on.

Group C: This group consists of sweet fruits. Examples of food items in this group are apple, grapes, guava, raisins, sugarcane, watermelon, and so on.

Group D: It comprises acidic foods such as green apple, lemon, orange, tangerine, apricot, cherries, pomegranate, pineapple, etc.

Food items from Group A may be combined with each other and any one item from Group B. Similarly, items of Group C may be combined with one another and any one food of group B. Foods from group B should not be consumed with one another. Among all the groups, items of Group D are the ones that must be consumed only individually, they cant be combined with anything, neither with items of the same group nor with other groups.

The Gracie Diet not only focuses on the right foods but also their right combinations. According to The Gracie Diet, the meals should ideally be taken after breaks of 4 to 4 and half hours without any snacks in between. The Gracie diet also emphasizes on avoiding smoking and increasing water intake for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes.
