Tanzania is found in Central East Africa and her neighbors include Kenya and Uganda
. To the north stands Rwanda and Burundi, to the north looms Zambia and Malawi and Mozambique to the south. The country is composed of 26 regions and the current president is Jakava Mrisho Kikwete who was elected in 2005. The country's political capital is Dar es Salaam a coastal city. Another city Dodoma has been the official capital of the country and it's where the parliament and some government offices are located. Tanzania derives its name from two states Tanganyika and Zanzibar that came together in 1964 to form the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. The country is one of the best to learn about the history of Africa. Excavations of fossils of human and pre-human hominids have been found and date back over 2 million years ago. Earlier travelers and merchants from the Persian Gulf and Western India used the coastal part of the region en-route to other countries. This led to the spread of Islam from the Arab visitors and Swahili became the main language of communication. Tanzania is the world's 31st largest country after Egypt and its size is comparable to Nigeria. The country has very attractive mountains where Mt. Kilimanjaro has the Africa's highest peak. The north and western parts of the country are dominated by the Great lakes of Lake Victoria [Africa's largest lake] and Lake Tanganyika [Africa's deepest lake]. The central part of the country comprises a large plateau, with plains and arable land. The eastern part of the coast is hot and humid. Zanzibar offers the best magical attraction one can indulge in. Zanzibar is an island easily accessed through air or water transport.
