The Great Dilemma: Cabinet Knobs Or Pulls?

Any time you choose to purchase new cabinetry or renovate the existing one

, amongst the many decisions youll make lies one which is more important than it looks: cabinet knobs or pulls? Speaking in general, they both serve the same purposes: serving as a stylish complement to the door as well as allowing you to easily open and close the door. At first it seems as if there really is no reason to ponder about this, but depending on which types of cabinets you want to put where, one options might actually prove itself more beneficial than the other.

If youre purchasing an entire new set of cabinet hardware, you can pretty much bet the house that theyll come with knobs. Unfortunately, these doorknobs are usually dull and pathetic. Luckily however, since theyre held in place by one small hinge most of the time, theyre easily removable and can be just as easily replaced, with newer, sleeker and smoother ones.

However, contrary to knobs, cabinet pulls are a more permanent structure, being long, c-shaped, and integrated to the door by the two extremities. The main difference between doorknobs and pulls is the amount of surface they occupy on the faces of the doors; pulls are long and are more likely to interfere with your cabinetrys style if selected incorrectly, while on the other hand, knobs are not only more customizable and thus potentially more desirable, but theyre also held in place by a single screw, which means that they can be made practically invisible so as to provide a smoother look to the cabinets.

One way to determine whether to use pulls or knobs is by looking at the quantity of cabinets to renovate. If there are many of those to work over, then installing pulls will prove to be a lot more time and effort consuming than installing knobs.

On the other hand though, pulls provide more comfort and a better grip, which is a big bonus for people suffering from arthritis.

And so in conclusion, remember that whatever you choose, you cannot go wrong as long as you match your product properly with your needs.
