The Different Museum Stops in Amsterdam

The Different Museum Stops in Amsterdam

Museums are one of the primary reasons people go to Amsterdam primarily because there are so many to choose from, each encapsulating a part of Amsterdams rich history. It actually depends on which ones you want to prioritize most, whether it is art, science, architecture, history or local culture. When art is concerned, theres the Van Gogh Museum in Centrum or the Rembrandthuis which allows visitors to take a peek of what these two artists were like and how their paintings influenced Dutch Culture. For those who are into more contemporary art, visit the Foam Photography Museum or the Netherlands Media Art, as well as ARCAM or the Amsterdam Centre for Architecture for a look at futuristic design. The Dutch Resistance Museum which records all the efforts of the Resistance during the second World War, as well as their Historical Museum is located here too. And for those who want a womans perspective on history, check out their Museum of Bags and Purses which has a wide collection from the Middle Ages. There are still so many to choose from, always worth the visit to have a different taste of Amsterdam every time.

What to do and Where to go in Westerpark Amsterdam

The most obvious answer, of course, is to lounge around in its famed Westerpark, a huge sprawl of grassland where one can sit down and watch the waterscape or have a picnic with friends. Aside from the park, there are so many restaurants, eating areas, cinemas, galleries and unique buildings to search through. First off, when its unique architecture that youre looking for, head on to Amsterdam School and Silodam. The latter is a beautiful building which looks like its suspended above the waterscape and was commissioned off of one of the great architectural firms in Amsterdam, MVRDV. After the walking tour, grab a bite to eat at eateries like WestergasTerras with a fascinating view of the people on the streets with the advantage of a huge terrace or for something more exotic, go to Rainarai for authentic Algerian cuisine. If youre on a budget, head on to Caf Restaurant Amsterdam, a historic structure which was once a 1900s engine room, now a favorite hangout place of Amsterdammers in Westerpark. Have fun!

Amsterdam for the Ultimate Food Lovers

Born out of attractive neighborhoods are several great eating places that boast not only of good food but of good ambiance as well. Most restaurants and cafes in Amsterdam are meant to be conversation places rather than fine dining areas where one can just sit back and relax with the comfort of friends. Take Bistro Sante at Regio, for example, an ideal restaurant for those who like big portions. And for those who like something a little more quiet albeit for a much older crowd, theres the Caf aad de Wolf which is converted into bar at night. At Zaanse Schans, theres a historic old building which serves great food and is considered a great conversation place too, the Restaurant de Hoop op d Swarte Walvis. For those who like a bit of seafood and Thai flavor, check out 't Waepen van Naang-Nuan with great emphasis on their dessert and fresh fish every night. There are still so many restaurants to choose from, and all are great places to try out while in Amsterdam!

Relaxing Stroll at De Plantage, Amsterdam

If youre trying to escape the nostalgic feel of the village, then De Plantage is probably one of the most affordable escapes one can get whilst still hooked to Amsterdam, far more modern than places such as Muiden or Centrum. The whole area found at the East part of Amsterdam is spacious and offers different attractions for kids, adults, intellectuals and adventurers. The Amsterdam Centre for Architecture or ARCAM is located at De Plantage which offers annual exhibits with futuristic architecture as its theme. For the kids and adults on a day trip, try the Artis Zoo, which is a beautiful way to interact with all kinds of animals as they have an aquarium, butterfly garden, petting zoo, a planetarium, geological museum and a research center housed in its property. Since this is Amsterdam, it cant be helped that there are still many historical sites in this contemporary area such as Rembrandts House, Tropenmuseum and the Dutch Resistance Museum. After all the sightseeing, one can have lunch at Restaurant De Kas, which was a former greenhouse turned dining area, or at Bloem, a former warehouse near Artis Zoo. Really, whichever way you look at De Plantage there are so many stores, museums, cafes, museums and parks to have fun in.
