The Great Outdoorsman Or Weekend Warrior
My husband is the great outdoorsman, he loves to camp
, fish, hunt, hike, ride dirt bikes and ATV's. I love all that stuff too, minus the hunting but I do like the natural meat, so I am supportive of all his outdoor vices. First it started with bows when we were first married, then guns, then fishing gear. Then he went to Alaska for the first time and had to have specialized fishing gear, then he started float tubing and had to have one of those plus waders, boots, fly rods, spinners, fly tying equipment etc.... I should have seen where this was all going, but I happily supportive his habit and time went on.
As our income increased over the years so did our expenditures, the kids got older and more expensive. So did my husbands toys. His reasoning was always to spend time with the boys so I didn't protest too much when the dirt bikes came home, then the ATV's, how are they going to get hauled around, I wondered. I shouldn't have because he started looking online for motorcycles trailers and toy haulers. He found a motorcycle trailer that can also haul the ATV's and has been used to help people move and haul stuff to Boy Scout Camp, so that was a pretty good investment. The nights get cold when they are hunting so next came the trailer to give them a good nights rest on the mountain. The trailer with it's storage fees and endless little niceties to keep them comfortable in their home away from home.
Lets talk for a minute about camping supplies; dutch ovens, sleeping bags, sub zero sleeping bags, back packs, cooking gears, water filters, hiking boots, and camouflage everything; hats, pants, jackets and even water bottles. The list endless and the prices high but hey, its outdoors time, so good gear is needed. We have a saying that goes, "there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear." Then there is all the stuff needed to keep the other stuff working; filters, knifes, whet stones, a reloader, a generator, cooking supplies, and then times all this by four boys and you have quite an investment to spend a night out in the woods, in nature, as nature intended. I guess there are worse investments at least it is an investment in time and relationship with the boys. They love their toys and they love their Dad, they love the ATV's motorcycle, trailer, gear, fishing, camping and hunting together. They really could go to a day spa cheaper than a night in the woods, but what fun would that be?
