The Green History Of Green Environmentalism
What is the meaning of green? It used to be known for being a color
, although nowadays The Green Movement is known as a historic environmental revolution. The green movement in America has an extensive history that goes all the way back to the 1830's and eighteen-forties as soon as intellectuals of the era started questioning the destructive environmental effects caused by the activities of institutions, commerce along with humanity as a whole. Aided by the inception of the industrial revolution and continually escalating evidence of a major problem at hand, the green movement began growing in popularity.
After World War II, a broader consciousness of ecology began to grow within the collective consciousness of the general public. Among the central causes was the population explosion that was happening on the planet. Popular researchers commenced to circulate works that drew attention to growing pressure on the earth's natural assets as a result of human activities. Through the 1950's, 60's and 70's, catastrophes like very much publicized huge oil spills in England and Santa Barbara, humans from Japan were subjected to radioactive matter ensuing from irresponsible tests of the H-Bomb, nuclear proliferation as a whole, pictures of earth from space, and new government agencies planned to safeguard the natural world greatly enlarged public awareness.

Even now, as the world approaches a population of 7 billion people, a multitude of the world's most brilliant scientists are cautioning that if considerably more is not done, human kind itself faces extinction.
Professor Peter Barrett, a top New Zealand scientist recently acknowledged "After 40 years, I'm part of a huge community of scientists who have become alarmed with our discovery, that we know from our knowledge of the ancient past, that if we continue our present growth path, we are facing extinction," Barrett said. "Not in millions of years, or even millennia, but by the end of this century." The basis for Barrett's claims are due to the research of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, an organization of 1000 scientists from one hundred countries and can be viewed at http://dc.indymedia.org/newswire/display/114245/index.php .
