The Growth Of Mobile Phone Websites

The past couple of years have seen an explosion on the internet of mobile websites

and all the related websites regarding their design, development and construction. For the uninitiated, a mobile phone websiteis quite simply a website which has been created for use with a mobile phone and designed for display on a smaller screen and format.

The reason for this new area of enterprise is that websites created for use with mainframe computers and laptops are not always compatible with the smaller screens on mobile phones, and in order to be able to have a correct display on the screen many websites are available in a light weight version. Since sales of mobile phones have tripled since last year, it makes sense to try and cater to this market.

Mobile phones now outnumber laptops and home computers by a ratio of 3:1 and websites have to be created with a new set of codes and standards which are quicker and faster to download and access. Everywhere you look you can see people using their mobile phones and not just for making and receiving phone calls either. People now use their phones for everything, from keeping in touch with the home, workplace and friends to finding their nearest garage or Chinese restaurant!

Mobile website design and development has had to keep up with the recent demands by consumers and this has led to a whole generation of people now dedicated to providing the most interesting entertainment, information and education to people who are either addicted to their mobile phones or who are too busy to search elsewhere. How many times have you been stuck in traffic with bored kids and given them your mobile phone to play a game on?

All these new advances in technology have helped us to have instant access to information, and have provided much needed jobs to mobile website builders and designers but on the other hand it has to be said that other fields are suffering, e.g. almost no one uses the yellow pages anymore since it is easier to just use your phone (because lets face it you were probably on it anyway!) to find the best place to go shopping, eat or the latest movie timings.

It is now forecast that by the year 2013 there will be a staggering 2 billion mobile phone users who will access the internet from their phones and in order to stay ahead of the competition each mobile website builder, designer and developer will have to come up with newer and newer ideas with which to capture the publics imagination, interest and therefore, their money. Browsing through the internet you will notice that the most popular websites are usually well designed, brightly coloured and generally eye-catching. For a mobile website these things carry even more importance since the display screen is smaller and people have even less time to browse in an leisurely way for the information they require.
