Discovering Oranjestad, Aruba

Discovering Oranjestad, Aruba

Located at the Southern Coast of Aruba, Oranjestad is one of the most colorful areas a tourist can see during his Aruban vacation, literally. The place was once the Dutch Capital of Aruba, so its no wonder that so many of its remnants are found there from its structures to its government functions, with most of Arubas official buildings and tourism offices found there. As a residential area, Oranjestad is filled with multicolored Dutch houses with its matching tiles and lots of wooden furniture. Like many of Aruban towns, Oranjestad relies heavily on its fishing livelihood, producing a fresh catch daily to bring to residents and restaurants in the area. Oranjestad is also a main shopping destination where one can buy authentic Aruban Art, handicrafts and clothing at affordable deals. If youre there during the summer on your Aruban vacation, check out the summertime festival. Oranjestad is truly great for a day tour, a way of discovering Arubas rich cultural influence.

Arubas Old Gold Mills

Tracing its origin as a gold town, many adventurers and settlers in the 1500s, dubbed Aruba as a rich land full of Oro Ruba or red gold. Thus, there were many attempts to capture this Caribbean island in search of the natural treasure. Now called Aruba, this island still has traces of its past clearly seen, and many of its old historic gold mills have now turned into popular tourist attractions. The Bushiribana Gold Mills is found on the Northern Part of the island where the ruins of this ore mine which finally produced gold in 1824 and has continuously produced about 3 million pounds of gold until the supply ran dry, the Bushiribana is a set of beautiful ruins beside the beachfront. Another gold mill is the Balashi Gold Mill found in Arubas Spanish Lagoon. The gold smelters in the said ruins are an interesting site to see in this once functional and continually aesthetically pleasing structure.

The Shopping Experience in Aruba

Shopping in Aruba is so unlike the frazzled task one usually associates with shopping at home. For one, there is no mall in Aruba. The closest thing to a mall is the Paseo Herencia Shopping and Entertaining Center, a beautiful old-style plaza which shows off the Spanish heritage of Aruba. There are many offerings in Paseo such as liquid fireworks display at night, a cinema and musical entertainment aside from the obvious restaurants and shops. The Village, which is actually more of an old structure thats been restored to become a shopping convenience in the middle of the Aruban hotel strip. The Village has a courtyard thats full of eye candy such as street performances, charming shops and small kiosks which show a different flavor of Aruban influences. Visit these two and you not only go home with different goodies but with a unique experience one can only blame on the uniqueness of the area.

Natural and Educational Trips with Arikok National Park Aruba

Although Aruba is more well-known for its world-class beaches, the natural wonders of its topography go unmissed even in the scientific world. Aruba was formed through the formation of different rocks which combined with each other to make the island what it is today, made out of lava, quartz and limestone. The process produced some of the most fertile lands, which have grown many endemic species in its time. Arubas Arikok National Park is standing in the middle of these three stone formations, and has been home to many wildlife and plant species, from snakes, birds, trees and even up to how it influenced the Amerindians who first settled on this island. Arikok National Park also explains that the rock formation also resulted into the different gold deposits which Aruba is so famous for. The park, whether youre a scientist of not, is a great way to revel in the beauty of nature with its several different tours that lend to the significance of the park and its staff. Scientist or not, you really can get lost in the natural abundance of the place.
