The History Of American Idol Themes

Great music, great songs and some really hot singers

. It's what America dreams of; it's the great story that is American Idol! Tonight's them is. . .well, you know the drill.

American Idol has captured the imagination of the entire world and similar versions of the show have been exported to countries near and far. Even, Britain's Got Talent's (a sister show) Susan Boyle surprised everyone with her amazing voice after she showed off a very homey looking body and even tried an ill advised wiggle.

But that voice made it all worth it. So how did all this madness get started? Who came up with the idea for American Idol?

Well it turns out that American Idol is another British import. The concept was first created in the United Kingdom as a TV show called Pop Idol.

Pop Idol lasted for just a couple of seasons, but the show was still pretty popular and spawned the concept for American Idol. Several networks were offered the opportunity to bid on the show. Every major network in the United States rejected it though and said it would never fly. But Rupert Murdoch, who owns Fox has a daughter who had seen the British version of the show and really liked it.

When she heard that her father had passed on bringing the show to the United States, she immediately called and demanded that he take a chance on it.

And what a chance it was. Every time people hear, "Welcome to American Idol. Tonight's theme is. . ." they go wild. The show itself is broadcast in over 100 countries, places as diverse as the UK, Israel, Vietnam and Sweden.

In addition, dozens of spin off shows have been created in all kinds of other countries and the show Britain's Got Talent is itself a kind of spin off from American Idol (the original Pop Idol fizzled after its second season in the UK although it recently began a new series).

The show has not been without controversy, with many people questioning if the show is really being as impartial as it ought to be and allowing people to compete fairly for the show. In addition, while the votes that you send in for American Idol do have a tremendous amount of sway, we have to wonder how much of that is tempered by the judges' decisions on the show itself.

One thing is for certain though, this year once again, we will be hearing those famous words, "Welcome to American Idol. Tonight's theme is. . ."
