The History Of Dental Implants

Dentistry is not a new science for mankind it has been in existence for ages same has been the case with Dental Implants

. Dental Implants have been found in dentures of human beings that have been excavated from prehistoric times. It is believed that in prehistoric times people used shells ivory and bones from animals to replace the teeth that used to be missing from the dentures of the human beings. The Mayan civilization is considered to be the pioneers in dental implants. This technique however went into oblivion. Then again Dental Implants were done in the 1700 when teeth were replaced from another human being. But this method was highly unsuccessful as the other person's immune system did not allow the tooth to be there.

In the 1800 however remarkable changes were brought out in the field of Dentistry and metals like gold, platinum, and other alloys were used to replace the missing teeth. These metals were directly placed in he sockets that became empty due to the loss of a tooth. The results were magnificent as they saw a remarkable change as the immune system did not really oppose the presence of the metals present in between the sockets.

However the real breakthrough in Dental Implants cam in the year 1952 when it was established that the metal titanium could successfully adhere and integrate with the human bones. This was a major breakthrough in the field of Dental Implants which was later implemented on human volunteer in 1965. Thus modern day dental implants took a leap forward which has helped many a human beings in having teeth that are just like the natural teeth.

The discomfort of a missing tooth or the care that one has to give to a denture that has to be taken out while sleeping has become a thing of the past as new and more advanced techniques are being practiced in dentistry especially in Dental Implants. Considering the history and the rich research that has gone into the evolution of Dental Implants today its quite obvious that this technology of replacing the gaps with natural looking teeth is going to stay here for long and serve mankind for coming ages unless we have something where natural teeth can be grown even at an age of 60 years.
