The History Of Mont Blanc Pens
As it stands today, Mont Blanc is a company that produces and extensive line of luxury
consumer products, including of course their line of writing instruments that includes Mont Blanc pens. It hasn't always been that way though.
You see, when the company first got started they were simply known as the Simplo Fuller a pen company, based out of Hamburg Germany, and they confined their products line to just fountain pens.
That was in the early 1900s, and back then the company was owned, and operated by a group of three men. They're names were Alfred Nehemais, Claus-Johannes Voss, and August Eberstein. In those formative years of the firm they produced but one model.
That one model they first introduced is the Rouge Et Noir, and today those first pens are highly sought after by collectors. The following year in 1910 they launched another model that they in fact named the Mont Blanc after a mountain in France, and it too is now highly prized by collectors.
It was at about that same time, back around the year 1910 that the three men who ran the firm, for some unknown reason decided to change the name of their company from Simplo Fuller to Mont Blanc. A name that of course remains to this day.
Beginning with the name change to Mont Blanc, the company went through a period of steady growth that culminated in yet another name change to Mont Blanc Simplo in 1934. That name was to remain all the way up to the year 1977, when after being sold to the Dunhill Corp; the company name was once again changed. This time back to Mont Blanc.
It was a short time after the Mont Blanc Pen Company was acquired by Dunhill that the company board made the decision to confine their line of product to include only high end, finely crafted pens. Also around the same time, the decision was made to broaden the company line to include other quality luxury goods.
As it stands today, the company known as Mont Blanc is owned, and managed by the Richmond Group. This is an international business organization that is made up of a few other luxury consumer product designers, and manufactures with names like Van Cleef and Cartier.
Under the guidance of the Richmond group, the Mont Blanc line of writing instruments has only continued to expand in size and popularity. It's also worth noting that it now includes a selection of limited edition series that have proven to be very popular.
Through it all though, it is their incredibly broad price range that has made them a popular choice with people from all walks of life, and income tax brackets. In fact while they do have gem encrusted pens that are priced up as high $100,000, Mont Blanc also carries a number of quality crafted writing instruments that are priced as low as $200 U.S.
