The History Of Pintrest
Pintrest is a relatively new social network but it is one that is becoming extremely popular and it is the perfect way for you to market your business
. Pintrest says they receive 4 million unique visitors every day and with the IPhone app being downloaded on average 200,000 times a day. Although not being out for very long it has an interesting history.
The website was launched in March 2010 by Ben Silbermann who developed the idea from similar websites. On this website you can share photos and pieces of information by repining them onto your profile so others can see them. When the website was first launched the website was an invitation only service so that is users could find any flaws in the website before its open launch. This website helps to refer traffic to retailers and other businesses which is why it is a great way for a business to make money. In the early months of the websites launch Silbermann tried to interest a New York publishing company into buying the website but the company rejected Pintrest saying they were not interested in buying it.
This would prove to be a big mistake as in 2011 Times Magazine listed the website inside the top 50 websites of 2011 which is a great way to show the companys growth from its launch a year ago. Later that year Pintrest was listed inside the top 10 biggest social networking websites although it was not up to the level of Facebook or twitter. Early in January 2012 it referred more traffic to retailers than Google+, LinkedIn and YouTube. Also in this month they reported 11,700,000 unique visitors and this made Pintrest the fastest site in history and apparently most of its users are in fact female.
In March 2012 Pintrest made another landmark by becoming the 3rd biggest social network in the United States only behind Facebook and Twitter. Currently the website is valued at $1.5 Billion which is a substantial achievement from something that was only developed 2 years previous. The website shows content from retailers that have signed up to the site and every user that clicked on one of the links away from Pintrest to a retailer spent on average $180. This means that your business can take advantage of this.
When setting up your account you should make sure that it is easily searchable by users. This can be done by adding categories and keywords. These have to be relevant to your business as you will be directing people that are not interested in what you have to offer to your page and it will be a waste of time. You should try and be creative with your page as well so that it can make people interest. As well as this you need to make it slightly personal so that people can relate to what you are putting on there and this gives off a friendly feel to the customers which may encourage them to try your products.
To use Pintrest to your advantage it is recommended that you prepare for what you are going to post on there. If you post the wrong stuff it is likely that you will generate no interest and you would have wasted your time completely. When preparing for this it is recommended that you take a clear interest in what your customers want to see. You can do this by looking at what they may be repining or what they are posting on other social networking websites and with this information you should post similar stuff which relates to your business so you do not just post about random stuff that is not likely to generate any business.
When posting pictures on Pintrest you should make sure that your pictures do not break any of the copyright rules on the website. In addition to this when you are pinning your own pictures you should add a watermark so if the picture gets repined people automatically know that it has come from your business and this can get people looking at your website.
You should link all of your social networking websites. If you have a Pintrest page for your business then you should have one on Facebook, Twitter and Google+. By linking these you can create a community amongst your customers and these may make these customers want your products more and there is nothing better than loyal customers.
