The History State Quarter Coin Collecting
There are many hobbies that have stood the test of time and are just as popular today as they have been in past years
. Some of those hobbies can include the collection of baseball or football cards, building models, coin collecting, etc.
Additionally, within each of these hobbies, the individual can be more specific. For example within the hobby of building models the individual may choose to build only airplanes or cars. Or the individual who has taken up the hobby of coin collecting may want to only collect certain coins.
Specifically, one such coin collection would be the start of state quarter coin collecting. If considering a state quarter coin collecting hobby it may prove beneficial to know the associated history and some of the benefits associated with state quarter coin collecting.
History
The history of state quarter coin collecting started before the minting of these coins. That process included dialogue with the 50 states asking them to submit at least three designs for the front of the quarters. The designs submitted were to reflect the individuality of the various states.
Once the designs were submitted they were reviewed by various committees and eventually recommendations were submitted to the Treasury Department for approval by the Secretary of the Treasury.
Following the design approval process, the minting of the first five state coins were accomplished in 1999. Subsequently, over the next 10 years, the additional 45 states were minted.
An example of a minted state quarter is the Wisconsin coin. The Wisconsin quarter coin collecting series will picture on this state coin three icons associated with the State of Wisconsin. Those three images are a dairy cow, cheese and an ear of corn. Also, on the front of the coin is the word "Forward." This is the State of Wisconsin's motto.
Benefits
There are several benefits associated with the state quarter coin collecting process. One of those benefits is that the individual involved in the state quarter coin collecting hobby can place these quarters in appropriate sized circles on a map of the United States that corresponds to the state that is depicted on the quarter. This process will not only provide fun and enjoyment in collecting these coins, but provide a geography lesson as well.
In addition, the individual committed to state quarter coin collecting will learn individualized points of interest about each state. This may help that collector to greatly appreciate the United States even more based on the specific contributions of each individual state in the union.
