In the Beginning

As early as 347 AD, oil wells of up to 800 feet were drilled with bamboo poles and bits attached to the ends. And you thought the guys on those greasy oil rigs had it rough! The year 1264 allowed Marco Polo to observe the seep oil mining in medieval Persia. Street lamps of the 1500's used seep oil collected from the Carpathian Mountains in Poland. 94 years later, back in Persia, wells of 115 deep were being dug; still by hand. 1735 saw France extracting oil from mined oil sands. The U.S. gets into the act in 1815, but oil is considered to be an undesirable' byproduct. Oil jobs in modern oil well digging are finally introduced in 1848 Asia. The very next year, kerosene is distilled from the crude. The very next year after that lamp oil is being distilled/produced in LA, California. Europe sees its first jobs on oil wells 30 50 meters deep in 1854; while in California, natural gas jobs are developing from the detection of the same in water well.

In 1857, '58 and '59, All Is Well

Finally, Ontario, Canada and the United States of America are utilizing a steady flow of oil workers on wells as deep as 69 feet down into the depths of the earth. From its crown block all the way down to its drill bit, the oil rig is an intricate yet robust form of technical ingenuity; springing from a bamboo stick with its own bit on the end.

From assistant plant managers in energy to systems administrator and everything in between; jobs in the energy industry may outlive many others in today's world of employment.
