, but the reality is that you are almost always going to get what you paid for.

The majority of travelers are not especially wealthy and do not intend to spend significant amounts of money to have lavish perks offered to them at various hotels. Considering this, there are certain basic extras that a hotel can offer to make staying there all the more attractive to the average guest who may be choosing between several different choices when he or she goes to book a stay.

The first of these extras may be overlooked by many people, but at the same time it is one of the basic aspects of what makes any hotel worth staying in: The bedding. While many national chains and smaller franchises will use fairly standard, run-of-the-bill bedding in their rooms, expensive luxury hotels often feature top-of-the-line materials to improve their accommodations.

The key is finding a middle of the road, where a hotel offers quality bedding that isn't so luxurious that you will pay for it a significant hike in the nightly rate, but is also a step up in comfort from a basic set. It can, however, be difficult to find out what type of bedding certain hotels offer, as it is not always readily available information.

One easily accessible fact is one of the most common and popular features of a hotel when it comes to determining what you are actually getting for your money. The continental breakfast can range from cold offerings such as cereal, bagels and fruit to hot breakfast fare such as eggs, sausage and waffles. Because it is included in the price of the room, the quality of this breakfast and when it is offered can go a long way towards determining the bang you are getting out of your buck.

A pool is also a popular amenity at any hotel, and the availability, size and style of one is a big factor in determining what you're getting out of your stay. If one is present at a given facility, is it indoors or outdoors and will it be open during your trip? Likewise, is it cleaned and maintained by the hotel staff and is it monitored as well? Even the nicest pools will do you no good if they aren't open, are too filthy to swim in or are filled with rambunctious college kids who will disrupt your chance at relaxation.

These and other perks and amenities can often separate competing hotels from each other. By asking about these and other offerings, you can make the most informed decision when it comes down to choosing the right place for you or your family to stay.
