HTC have been steadily building a reputation for producing excellent handsets with

previous efforts the Legend, Magic and Smart all proving hugely popular. The latest addition to their range, the Desire Black looks set to top all its predecessors thanks to an excellent specification and stylish look.

Putting all the superb features to one side for a moment, at its most basic level the Desire Black performs superbly as a phone. This is helped by the wealth of information that the handset is capable of collaborating. The phonebook not only stores your friends numbers but can be linked to Google, Facebook etc. All of your Facebook contacts are also added to your phonebook as are your Google contacts. One advantage of having such excellent links is that when you look up a friend in your list, status updates, photos and information are all displayed as well as the all important phone number. Texting is also a simple affair. In addition to predictive text the phone learns words you use frequently and suggests them to you where it sees appropriate. The large screen also helps make texting that little bit easier.

The HTC Desire Black scores points in the styling stakes to. Despite the massive 3.7" screen, the actual 119 x 60 x 11.9mm measurements are relatively slimline. An attractive aluminium bezel surround the screen and the curved edges keep everything looking very top end. The screen itself shows WVGA images which are a resolution of 480 x 800. These figures alone are impressive but backed up with the fact the screen is AMOLED rather than TFT means colours look rich and deep and generally images look superb. The screen is a capacitive touchsreen, ultimately meaning it is more responsive to the users touch than its resistive styled counterparts. HTC have cleverly fitted an optical trackpad beneath the screen. This improve on the trackball found on other models and offers the user an alternative way to navigate tricky webpages. This trackpad also doubles as an enter button, just one of six buttons found in total on the handset. A 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot are also located on the chassis of the phone.

If you are looking for one of the best smartphones currently available, then the HTC Desire Black may well be the handset for you. Excellent processor and user interface compliment a great screen and list of feature perfectly, and the stylish looks also add to the appeal.
