At first it was funny. After a few years, its an embarrassment. Not for the dog. The mutt is trying to mate. And as we all know, mating can be fun. Sometimes.

When your ol boy starts to mount, it may not be that their libido wants to have little puppies. Female dogs occasionally show the same behavior. Theyll find a convenient leg, a piece of furniture, other animals outside their species or large stuffed teddy bears to take to dinner and a movie.

Its Not Just About Sex

Sure, thats a big motivation. Even pets that are fixed may get an urge every-so-often to get their jollies. They seem flirty. They get all playful, frisky, a little too close. Then theres the gift that males leave behind. Dont be alarmed, youre not alone to experience this red-face moment. This type of stuff is quite common.

When your dog gets allegedly horny, it may not be that they are sexually excited. They may just be damned glad to see you.

It could be a sign of your pet getting a bit more anxious about a stimulating situation than what is appropriate. Anxiety is a key point, here.

Some experts think this is the equivalent of power play politics in the animal world.

Dont discount the boredom factor. Maybe the canine is just expressing how tedious things are. Could it be an attention-getter?

Think for a moment how you react when the cur starts humping the sofa cushions. Do you get all huffy? Nice shot. You just told your canine that to break the boredom and get some attention they simply need to have a tte--tte with your dirty laundry.

Heres a solution. Give them stimulation is acceptable ways like take them for a walk, throw their toy around, get them interested in crossword puzzles. They need to pass the hours someway or theyre going to go nuts.

Animals can go crazy without something to do. If it can happen to Gramps, it can happen to Baxter.

Humping and mounting things occasionally isnt all that big of a deal. Just shake it off, laugh and distract the mutt.

Then again, this could be a warning that something is going-on in the pups brain. Its not out-of-the-question that the fuzzy one has a case of OCD Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. If they are not only hump-maniacs but they also lick an area of their body too much, this is a cue that you need to make an appointment with your vet. Now!
