iEdge cards also commonly known as McBee cards were invented long back in 1986
. iEdge cards were known for their capability to store massive data and also for easy data manipulation. iEdge cards were also useful for cataloging and categorizing applications which were important and of use to the people in the 20th century.
iEdge cards were made as a result of many variations. The most popular and famous version of iedge cards was the one that was made of paper board cards and was of the size five inch by eight inch. In these paper boards cards; there were holes which were made with the help of a punching machine. These holes were punched on all the four edges at the same distance. These holes were equidistant from each other along the edges.
For the purpose of recording the data, the paper that was kept in between the edge and the hole was removed with the help of a notching tool which is specialized for this purpose only.
The holes in the iedge cards are meant to be assigned for a particular and specific application. In iedge cards, the most complex data can be encoded with a variety of schemes which are already available. The central region of the iedge card is considered to be a blank region where a lot of information can be stored, written and hence can also be printed.
iEdge cards when initially manufactured were not meant to be compatible with machines. iEdge cards can be combined with one another such that more data and more complex information can be stored.
iEdge cards also support multiple downloading game facilities. It is compatible with MicroSD cards as well. It also serves as a home for accessing of homebrew applications for users. It is also updated time to time.
