The Importance Of A Criminal Attorney
There are some people who are totally against the idea of a criminal attorney
. In their minds, criminals don't need representation. They need to be thrown straight in jail. Contrary to this belief, however, there are several reasons why this idea doesn't work and isn't accepted in the court of law.
Firstly, all American citizens have the right to a lawyer, and they are given the benefit of being considered innocent until proven guilty. Because of that, they are able to get representation to help prove that they in fact did not do a certain crime. So, just because they have been accused of a crime or they are suspected of wrongdoing, it doesn't mean that they are actually guilty. There have been many people over the years who have been accused of crimes, executed, or put in jail for things they did not do. Therefore, having a criminal attorney is something that is their necessary right.
Another reason that a person accused of a crime should be able to have a criminal attorney is because these professionals help them to get a fair sentence. There are many times that people get a sentence that does not fit the crime. For example, someone who is caught with a small amount drugs for the first time, should not get a life sentence in prison. On the other hand, someone who is involved in an involuntary manslaughter case should not be executed. These may seem like no-brainers and for the most part, they are a little far-fetched. However, you would be surprised at how many times people get extremely outrageous sentences that don't match the crime. Sometimes, this is because they don't have someone to represent them, they end up having to do it on their own, and in the end, they are treated unfairly.
On the other hand, a skilled lawyer would be able to help a client get a reasonable sentence. In some cases, a criminal attorney can even help someone get as low as probation. There are even times when lawyers help to negotiate plea bargains and other deals for their clients. This can help to cut down their sentence significantly.
Although some people may not agree with the idea of a criminal attorney, there are several reasons why those who are accused of crimes, need these professionals. Not only is it their right, but it's also presents their only real opportunity of getting a just and fair trial.
