People who suffer from being overweight struggle through many negative side effects such as snoring

, sleep apnea, and many health complications. It may be somewhat surprising to note that at least 50 to 60 percent of those who are obese struggle with obstructive sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is when you stop breathing for periods of time during the night. If your sleep apnea is bad enough, your body will wake you up so you will tell it to start breathing again.

With so many negative side effects, it is amazing how many adults do not take measures to fix or prevent obesity. However, the National Center for Health Statistics conducted a survey.

It was discovered that seven out of ten adults do not regularly exercise. In addition, four out of ten are not physically active at all.


These statistics are appalling. As a result of not exercising, many people develop diabetes, heart disease, and suffer from strokes.

Every year 300,000 people in the United States alone die from these diseases as a direct result of not exercising. Think how many lives could be saved by exercising.

There are some who try to solve this problem before it is too late, but instead of finding something that works for them, they turn to diets and exercise that are popular by name but fail to provide the lifestyle that will be beneficial to these people. The basic principles for weight loss that you cannot get away from include daily exercising and healthy eating.

This leaves a lot of flexibility for you to choose something that will be fun and rewarding for you. Whether you choose to exercise on the elliptical or run outside every day, it will be beneficial to you.

Ellipticals are growing in popularity because they are very convenient and effective. When it is raining or cold outside, you will not have to leave your home.

If you are mother, you will not have to find a babysitter to watch your children while you go exercising. You can watch your children and provide a good example for them while you are exercising on the elliptical.

As your children see you exercising, they will realize how important it is. They may incorporate this habit into their life early on.

You will be able to help them have excellent health throughout their lifetime by providing a good example. However, before you begin exercising, you should consult your doctor.

If you are a man over the age of 40 or a woman over the age of 50, you may be especially at risk for developing health problems by exercising too hard at first. Consult with your doctor about how much you should be exercising.

Be sure to start exercising at a low intensity level and build up to a high level. Do not try to do too much too quickly or you could injure yourself.

It is best if you can incorporate 30 minutes of medium intensity exercise daily. Whether you would like to do all thirty minutes at the same time or break it up into chunks is completely up to you.

It is also a very good idea to incorporate some form of weight lifting twice a week. This will make sure you are well rounded in your exercising efforts.

In addition, it always helps to add as much activity into your life as much as possible. During your free time, try to do something active instead of sitting in front of the television.

Garden, take a walk, ride a bike, participate in exercise class, or join a sport. Whatever kind of activity you choose to do, it should be fun, but active.

The stronger your feeling of accomplishment when you complete a project, the more motivated you will be to continue being active and exercising. Staying motivated to exercise may be one of the hardest things you will have to do.

Exercising in itself may not be difficult to do, but staying committed to exercising is much harder. You may be able to overcome this problem through goal setting.


Set several long and short term goals. Be sure to write these goals down and place them in a place that you will be able to see every day.

You will be much more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down. Be sure to set a reward for yourself for when you accomplish your goal.

This reward should make your hard work worth it. Exercising is worth the effort it will take to stay motivated.
