The Importance Of Global Communication For Graduate Programs In Clinical Psychology

A recent week long program hosted by the Chicago School placed a spot light on the

importance of global communication in the world of clinical psychology. The program was designed to introduce other cultures to psychology practices in the United States, as well as to promote the school's graduate programs in clinical psychology.

The main idea behind the program was to provide students in other graduate programs clinical psychology principles that can be applied in real world settings, across cultural boundaries, while giving individuals the opportunity to meet and network with other students and faculty. The exercises practiced were both classroom based and community based; creating a one of a kind learning experience.

Each student was presented with a customized curriculum that enabled them to gain exposure to a variety of views from students and staff in various departments. All of the students began with a basic introduction to graduate programs in clinical psychology in the United States, and were encouraged to participate in discussions regarding the various fields of practice. Other critical topics touched upon in the program included the positive psychology movement, and the mental health issues that face the Latin community were also addressed.

The unique combination of lessons allowed visiting students to interact directly with the students of the Chicago School, which helped to increase understanding among both sides, while promoting global views and multi-cultural consciousness. The valuable exchange between students yielded a great amount of precious knowledge and insight that cannot be found in any type of textbook.

Because of the large success of the first session, the Chicago School intends to host other similar events in the future. This has shown to be a very helpful tool to the continuing education of graduate programs in clinical psychology as well as the betterment of everyday life in various communities.
