, one of the first things one should do is keyword research. The importance of researching your keywords well can not be stressed enough, because they are the foundation from which your whole SEO campaign stands.

Imagine this, you start an SEO campaign, and the keywords you use for optimization aren't well thought out and you used whatever came to mind. Here are a few problems that may arise from that. First, the keywords you chose might be the most common ones. What this means is, when a user searches for that string of keywords, they will get a plethora of hits. Maybe a million or so. Now, how can you optimize with that kind of competition? Impossible, if you ask me. Then, there's the chance of you choosing keywords that are not common. When this happens, no one will be searching that string and will result with no one getting to your site.

Those are just a couple of the problems that may arise from the lack of keyword research. What you want to get when doing research is finding the right balance. Getting keywords that are common enough that people search for them, yet not that common to make it impossible for you to rank for them. Striking a balance is key here.

Keyword research will also help you gauge your competition and know where you will be starting from since figures shown during your research will reveal the market. And this will give you a good idea on how you will approach your SEO campaign.

So before you go about putting in all kinds of keywords in your SEO campaign, be sure that you've done the proper keyword research first. Failure to do so, may result in the total collapse of your campaign. So be sure you do it wisely and not rushed.
