The Importance Of Maintaining Tires In Good Condition

Tires are amongst the most important parts of a car

. They keep the vehicle on the road and running. Even if the engine is not working, a car can move if it is pushed or the brakes are released to allow it to roll downhill. The maintenance of these parts of the car is vital as any damage can lead to a dangerous situation for the driver, other car occupants and the people around the vehicle. Many accidents have been caused by a tire burst causing the car to lose control or a bald tire causing the vehicle to skid on a wet road. Caring for the tires of a car therefore not only safeguards the lives of the travellers but also the lives of the people around the car.

For a tire that has low tire pressure there is a distinct danger of it bursting. With low pressure, a tire cannot properly support the weight of the vehicle and its occupants and it is likely to burst under the strain. With the low pressure, the tire (or bildck as the Swedish mechanics say) cannot also optimally move over the ground, forcing the motor to work harder at propelling the vehicle forward. Think how a low pressure tire looks like. Its shape is flattened at the bottom where it comes in contact with the ground. It is like the difference between round and square tires. The vehicle consumes much more fuel in trying to keep the car moving.

Tires are made of rubber so are very vulnerable to outside influences. Even with expert driving skills, it is not always possible for the driver to avoid damaging a tire. Roads are not always clear of debris and there are often sharp objects in the form of thorns, glass and even scrap metal that lie around. In many instances these objects may be very small to be noticed as one drives along but sharp enough to pierce the rubber. They often cause a slow puncture such that the tire slowly loses pressure as the air escapes through the small tear. This is one of the reasons a driver should always take a cursory glance at each tire in order to be sure no damage has occurred. If evidence points to a damaged tire then it should be changed with the spare and taken for repair.

All vehicle owners should endeavour to ensure that they always carry a spare tire and the apparatus needed to change it. They should also ensure that they regularly check on tire pressure. Having the tire running at the ideal pressure will ensure better fuel consumption and slower deterioration of the tread. They should also ensure to have the tires inspected at each servicing to know when they will need to be changed. Check the car manual to be sure of the proper size of tires as the wrong choice may lead to accidents. For those who live in areas where there is snow, be sure to switch to snow tires when the appropriate weather changes occur. Having the right tires on, ensures the driver has full control over the car.
