A Certified Nursing Aide can obtain certification by completing 75-150 hours specific state and federal approved nurse aide training programs. The training program consists of both classroom learning and clinical hand-on training. The successful completion of the training allows him/her to sit for the specific state competency evaluation test and completion of both tests awards the title of certified and Certification.

It is also essential that the training program and certification test must also meet the requirements of OBRA-87, which has stipulated certain provisions and mandates all states to regulate and approve competency evaluation test and state CNA Training Programs. The certification thus acquired, helps a nursing student to get listed with particular state Nurse Aide Registry and allows them to work legally in various hospitals, nursing homes, long term care units and other health clinics.

The clinical test is performed on a dummy selected by the candidate or offered by the examining authority.
