There can be a lot of obstacles to get in the way of healthy eating. If you are a mother eating healthy can be a big chore. You may already have to maintain your home, put the kids in school, work, and cook dinner. So finding the time to eat healthy while on the run can be very difficult.

However, if you don't find the time to eat right, not only are you more prone to developing health problems and gaining weight, you are passing these bad habits on to your kids. Obesity is the number 3 death causing problem in America. Child obesity is becoming more and more of a problem.

In order to lose weight you have to make better food choices and include healthy eating in your daily life. Here are a few tips to help you make better food choices:


Start by making small realistic changes. Eating healthy will not come over night.

Start taking the time to read nutrition facts. Learn the importance of food labels and how to read them.

Try healthy eating plans to help you learn how to eat healthy and prepare you for grocery shopping.

Start incorporating healthy snacks into your diet and cut back on junk food. Notice I said "cut back". Don't totally eliminate the things you enjoy.

Add more fruits and vegetables to your diet and drink 8 to 12 glasses of water a day.

Eat more fish. Fish is a great source of protein and is less fattening than beef. It also contains lots of vitamins and minerals, including omega 3 oils which are good for our memory. It is recommended that we eat at least two servings a week.

Eat six small meals. I know it's been said that we should eat three meals a day. But studies suggest that eating six small meals every two to three hours is better for weight loss.

Don't burn yourself out. Get educated and research many different healthy eating recipes. This way you won't stick to the same things and get tired and quit.

Don't look at it as a chore, look at it as a decision to control your life. The benefits of healthy eating out way the difficulty and you owe it to yourself and others to be around and get the best out of your life.
