Nobody can stay away from his peers. Family, friends, co-workers and simple acquaintances we meet along our lives help us develop social skills and make us more adaptable to society. A Robinson Crusoe kind of life is unacceptable nowadays and nobody could stand it anyway.

Relationships with other people teach us useful things about human nature and even help us understand ourselves better. Life is full of opportunities and we must learn how to get them but chances do not appear out of the blue, they are brought out by people, which means that keeping in touch with people will make it easier for us to see and hear of opportunities.

A good relationship between two people is based on respect and consideration, mutual understanding and sincere interest in each other. Working relationships are not very much different. Co-workers try to establish a good relationship with each other and gather their forces to do the right job for the benefit of the team and company. Companies, in turn, do business together and make their collaboration profitable. That's the way things work in this world, we are all connected at different levels and, as we are part of a huge mechanism, we cannot function individually, without the other elements of the structure.

Suppose you run a company. Whatever its field of activity, this company cannot be self-sufficient. It needs other companies to do business with and together they look like a chain whose loops are closely linked and cannot be cut off. A good business relationship implies both staying in touch with partners you have been working with and opening your eyes to new opportunities that may arise from the outside world.

It is very important to be open to fresh opportunities and give your company new chances to develop. As life has shown us so many times, we are more likely to get an opportunity if the right person points to it and maybe advises us on how to get it. If you find yourself in the right place at the right time you will always get what's best for your company.

Keeping in touch with people you have done business with can make other business opportunities come your way. Whether you are still doing business with them or just know them from previous activities together, it's a wise thing to keep socializing with such people. Many times a partnership turn into friendship and this paves the way to a new circle of friends which in turn can lead to new business opportunities. It's as simple as that. An acquaintance of your acquaintance is sometimes a potential customer or partner so, if you want to improve your chances of doing business, the best thing to do is get out and socialize with as many people you know and keep an open mind.

This also happens in everyday life with people who don't own companies. You have a certain number of friends that you see regularly. On a special occasion or just accidentally you may be introduced to a friend of your friend who will surprisingly become an important person in your life. Enlarging your circle of friends, acquaintances and business associates is a very healthy thing to do; it will bring joy to your heart and plenty of opportunity to your business.
