The Importance of Radiators in the Home!
Are you building a new home? If you are, you may be surprised at the number of choices you have to make from the materials used in the flooring to the heating system you will use. A custom home, in particular, may call for many more decisions to be made about the interior than you may be prepared for. If you are currently deciding about heating, radiators may have been mentioned as one of your choices. Here are a few things to keep in mind when deciding if they are right for you.
When you are making your decision, it should not be based on old fashioned, inefficient radiators from years past. The new radiators are much smaller, more efficient and more attractive than they were in the past. You can get ones that are very compact, or which are shaped like a baseboard and so are much less noticeable than their antique counterparts.
Do you like the idea of being able to recycle your heating medium so that it can be reused? If so, you may like radiators. They use heated pressurised water which travels through metal pipes. The pipes heat up and the heat transfers to the air, making the room warmer. Because it is a humid heat, it will not dry out your skin, hair and nails like dry forced air heat or electric heat can.
If you are building an apartment complex rather than a home, radiators can be some of the most efficient means of providing heat to your tenants. You don't need to worry about individual furnaces (even if there was room), and you can link them all to one central boiler. That way you can allow your tenants to have very individualized control over the temperature of their rooms. It is effective and inexpensive to operate and maintain.
If you like to sleep in a room which is much cooler than the rest of your home, or you may not be using all of your rooms all of the time, a radiator system is an excellent choice for your home. This is because each radiator has its own temperature controls and can be set as high, or as low, as you would like. This can actually save you money on your heating bills. A radiator can also be tied into a radiant heating system more easily than other types of heating systems.
If you want central air, a radiator is not the best choice. A central air unit uses a forced air furnace to move chilled air through a system of ducts. Because a house with radiators has neither of these, a central air unit is not something that you can use. If you are okay with the idea of a window mounted air conditioner or you do not have any interest in cooling your home, you can enjoy the advantages that a radiator can give you.
Keep in mind that older radiators all looked very similar. This is definitely not the case with modern radiators. Now, there are a range of different models to pick from. If you are remodelling, you should know that it is relatively easy to cover an older radiator. There are kits that are available or you can make your own using well ventilated, heat resistant materials.
Radiators are some of the best heaters around. They are environmentally friendly and efficient and can give you the control over the temperature in your home that few other systems can match.
