The Impressive Htc Legend

The HTC Legend is the latest offering from the manufacturer who brought us the well received Hero

. But with such a predecessor to live up to, does the Legend manage this, or prove a disappointment. The answer is the former, the Legend is a superb handset.

Boasting a hefty 600Mhz processor, the first thing that strikes me about the phone is how effortless it is to use. Everything seems fluid, transitions between menus are fast and apps seem super quick to load. A common complaint with many Android handsets is that when several operation are running that overall performance slows down considerably, however there seems to be no such problems with the Legend. Internet usage is a pleasure too, offering 3G, Edge and WiFi connectivity, the browser seems fast and features a magnifier to enable easy copying of text, a feature iPhone users will be familiar with, as they will with the excellent pinch and zoom multi touch technology that is also featured .

The Legend feature HTC's own user interface named "Sense". Sense makes using the phone an easy and fun task, as well as making the display look very slick as well. It offers the user a choice of seven homescreens and features a host of neat little touches. For example the clock screen give a weather display which corresponds to the actual weather where you are thanks to your mobile phones signal. There is also a feature that will prove hugely popular with social networking fans entitled "Friendstream". This allows you to log into Facebook, Twitter and flickr and see all status updates in one continuous stream.

There is plenty to keep multimedia fans happy on the HTC Legend. Thanks to a microSD card slot being included a huge 32GB of memory can be used (with the additional card). This allows for a host of audio and video files to be stored, and most formats are supported including MP3, WMA and WAv audio and MP4 and WMV video. A 3.5mm Stereo Jack is always welcomed, meaning the users own choice of headphones can be used to enjoy these files. An AMOLED 3.2" screen produces superb images and displays a good quality resolution of 320 x 480 pixels.

The HTC Legend is the most impressive Android handset to date. The fact that it supports flash files means it is a very real alternative to the i phone. The speed of the Legend coupled with it gorgeous looks, thanks to the metal body, looks set to make this a very worthy successor to the excellent Hero.
