The Indian Museum of Calcutta (Indian Museum in English) is a multidisciplinary museum
founded in 1814 by the Danish botanist Nathaniel Wallich, based in Calcutta. It is one of the oldest museums in the world and the first major museum built in Asia-Pacific .
The ninth regular Oldest Museum of the World, INDIAN MUSEUM, Kolkata, INDIA Is The Oldest Institution of Its Kind in Asia Pacific region and the Largest repository of museum objects in India.
From 1814 to 1878, the museum was housed in the premises of the Asiatic Society in Calcutta. In 1878 he was transferred to a new building built on Chowringhees main street of Calcutta - and specially designed to receive its collections. Its 60 galleries are grouped into six sections: Art, Archaeology, Anthropology, Geology, Zoology and Botany. In hisart collections can be admired Mughal paintings, Egyptian mummies, the Buddhist stupa Bharhut, the ashes of the Buddha, Ashoka Pillar, fossils of prehistoric animals, various antiques and a collection of meteorites .The National Museum is and therefore depends on the central government of India .
The Indian Museum of North America is home to an extraordinary collection of art and artifacts reflecting the diverse histories and cultures of the American Indian people. The museum, designed to complement the story being told in stone on the mountain, speaks eloquently to present and future generations about American Indian life.
The Indian Museum of North America serves as an excellent resource for both Indian and non-Indian students. They have an opportunity to study and learn from the displays and the many other cultural and educational resources at Crazy Horse. It gave Korczak and Ruth and their family great satisfaction to see visitors in the museum appreciating and learning from the beautiful artifacts. Today, Anne Ziolkowski Christensen capably manages all aspects of the Indian Museum of North America.
A multipurpose and multi Disciplinary institution of national importance, the Museum Was Established At The Asiatic Society, the body Earliest Learned In The Country on 2nd February 1814. Transferred to the present building in 1878 with Two galleries, the Museum Has now over sixty galleries of Art, Archaeology, Anthropology, Geology, Zoology and Botany sections, spreading over ten thousand square feet area. Many rare specimens Both Indian and Trans - Indian origin Relating to Humanities and Natural Science are Preserved and displayed in the galleries of thesis sections.
The administrative control of the cultural sections, viz Art, Archaeology and Anthropology Rests With The Board of Trustees Under STI Directorate, AND THAT The Three scientific sections of IS with Geological Survey of India, Zoological Survey of India and Botanical Survey of India.
The Museum Directorate Has seven co-ordinating service units have SUCH Preservation, Publishing, Photography, Presentation, Modelling, Education and Library. Indian Museum ya une institution Autonomous Fully Funded by the Department of Culture, Government of India.
Was Founder Curator Dr. Nathaniel Wallich - a botanist landing at Sreerumpore, (original name: Frederischnagor) near Calcutta, India, from Copenhagen, Denmark. From 1814 - 1878 It Was At The Asiatic Society of 1 Park Street, Calcutta.
As anthropological year institution, It Is Informed by research on archeology, history, and the common creative spirit of modern artists and craftspeople.
