Health and safety inspections are no doubt an important part of the food services industry

. It makes it easier and more comforting for people to go to restaurants to eat. Some of the regulations may be silly or over protective, but as a general gist they serve an import consumer role. However, for the people in the food service industry it can be a rather trying experience to get inspected. You know the importance of the inspections, but sometimes you know youre doing everything right and keep getting fined over minor violations youre told are easily correctable. What should you do? Sometimes your first thought should be to look for the cheapest easiest to handle solution. For example having chronically high temperatures in a refrigerator might have a solution as simple as faulty refrigerator door gaskets.

The first thing to do is to check the refrigerator door gaskets. Realistically if you own any company that relies on its refrigerators you should check the gaskets regularly. One simple way to test the refrigerator door gaskets is to insert a dollar bill (or something of similar size and consistency) into the door and close the door on it. You should not be able to slide the bill right out but should instead meet resistance. Try that up and down the door and see if you have many spots where the bill slides right through. An improper seal can let cold air out, and comparatively hot air in. The effect of which is that it can cause food in the refrigerator to turn quicker than expected.

There is some good news hidden in all of this, refrigerator door gaskets are a pretty cheap and manageable repair. Replacing the refrigerator door gaskets costs less than replacing anything mechanical, chemical in the refrigerator, or replacing the entire unit itself. Youll most likely want to hire a professional to handle the gasket replacement, in which case you want to look into someone who knows what theyre doing with gaskets themselves as it can be tricky to cut and get in place properly. Quite often refrigerator door gaskets have to be custom fit to the door itself. Now, most often when the word custom appears in a job description or title it means something incredibly expensive. However, compared to the other costs that are possibilities, including taking fines from the food inspector, the cost of custom gaskets is nothing. There are lots of reasons to want to come back clean from every health and safety inspection, not the least of which is concern over your consumers, if youre lucky the only thing holding you back is something easily handled like refrigerator door gaskets.
