The Iphone 4s Remains A Popular Phone

Despite an increasing number of competing smartphones

, the Apple iPhone 4S remains as popular as ever. Companies such as HTC, Samsung and LG have recently been releasing some of the most cutting edge smartphone to date, but the iPhone is holding its own, despite hitting the market over six months ago.

The aforementioned companies all run the Android operating system on their flagship smartphones, with the most recently released boasting the Ice Cream Sandwich version which is the latest incarnation of the platform. Apple only releases one smartphone at a time, so those who prefer iOS (Apples smartphone and tablet optimised operating system) over Android only have the choice of the iPhone 4S, or a previous iPhone model like the iPhone 4. The latest version of iOS is the 5th generation, and offers the familiar layout, ease of use and customisation that so many people love. Also, the AppStore is one of the most important strings to the iPhone 4Ss bow, allowing users to browse over 500,000 apps from various categories.

In terms of processing power, the iPhone 4S has quickly been overtaken by the competition, on paper at least. With a 1 GHz dual-core processor, the phone provides great performance, although many competing devices are now including quad-core processors of up to 1.5 GHz on their flagship phones spec lists. Unless you are well versed in the ins and outs of this technology it is unlikely that you will notice the difference between the processor found in the iPhone 4S and the more powerful ones found in newer smartphones.

The iPhone 4S is well known for its screen technology, sharing the famous retina display found on its predecessor, the iPhone 4. This screen technology gets its name because of the fact that the naked eye cannot distinguish between individual pixels. Although most newer handsets match or even out do the resolution of this screen, even on larger screens, the fact remains that if you cannot make out individual pixels, then there is no difference to the naked eye whether a phone has a high resolution or not. So although the spec lists on some new phones like the Samsung Galaxy Note or HTC One X may boast some of the highest screen resolutions out there, you are unlikely to notice the difference in display quality.

Although the iPhone 4S may be slowly getting overtaken on paper by competing smartphone manufacturers offerings, remember that Apple generally releases one phone per year. Later this year the iPhone 5 is due for release, and like previous instalments of the wildly popular iPhone 4range, it is likely to set the standard once again for the competition.
