Poole has many significant attributes as a town

. It serves as the home of the Special Boat Service (SBS), the Royal Marines, and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Moreover, it is considered to be the centre of the production of luxury yachts in the world.

Aside from these impressive attributes, there are also enough jobs here as evident in its unemployment rate, which is one of the lowest in the country. With the current state of the employment in the town, there are also development projects that are providing jobs in Poole that are expected to run until the next year as part of the bigger investment scheme valued to be at 1 billion pounds. All these make Poole a great place to live and work in.

Poole and the Wool Trade

In the 1800's, Poole became a centre of wool trade. It became the centre of the said trade since it served as an important port where the trading began. Moreover, the port in Poole was looked upon as one of the most important ports in the country since the town had successfully opened some trading relationships with the U.S.A. Due to this Poole-US trading, the town's port became very busy as well. As this trading continued and as the imported goods from the US were sold in Poole's market, the manufacturing industry boomed.

Poole and the Developments in Its Port

The port in Poole functioned as a point of departure for the D-Days during the World War II. As time went by, Poole's port underwent some changes. The boats of the local fishermen and the numerous trading vessels docked to the town's port were replaced with cruise liners and even super yachts.

Thus, the war did not do anything harmful to the port. Instead, it continued to be of use as a commercial port. Despite it being medium-sized, it continued to prosper especially with the operations of some ferries. These were the Condor Ferries and Brittany Ferries which offer freight and passenger services bound for Cherbourg, France. In addition to this, a catamaran service was also available for taking 185 cars and 732 passengers over the Channel.

Poole and the Luxurious Yacht Builders

The Sunseeker International is the largest luxury yacht builder in the world when it comes to yacht builders under private ownership. It provides 1,800 jobs in Poole and contributes 160 million to Pool's treasury every year. There are also other manufacturers that have established business in the town such as Siemens, Penske Cars Ltd, and Sealed Air. This sector is said to account for approximately 17% of the jobs in this area.

Poole and Its Regional Planning Policies

Poole has been considerably more lenient than the other towns in the country when it comes to its regional planning policies. This is pointed out as one of the reasons why many businesses are drawn to it. Some of these companies would be the Bank of New York's trust division, American Express Bank, and Barclays Bank. These companies have so far provided for 1,200 jobs. There are even more financial institutions, which are slowly relocating to Poole.

However, the County Borough of Poole is still undoubtedly the biggest employer in the town. It employs more than 4,500 employees.
